About Jeremy Holton

Born in England and graduating from the University of London, Jeremy Holton has lived many lives before and alongside his career as a professional fine artist. His diverse background includes working as a geologist in East Africa (Tanzania) and South Australia (Whyalla), a town planner in Kent, a principal systems analyst and IT manager for BHP and Woodside Offshore Petroleum across Wollongong, Melbourne, and Perth, a management consultant with Ernst & Young, and the owner-manager of a commercial stonefruit orchard in the Perth Hills. This analytical and geographical breadth became the foundation for his full-time artistic practice.

After completing a Diploma of Art at the Claremont School of Art in Perth (1988–1994), Holton established his professional career in 1994 with his debut solo exhibition of Pilbara landscapes at Woodside Offshore Petroleum in Perth and Karratha. In March 1995, combining his technological foresight with his artistic practice, he founded Peach Tree Gallery—the first internet art gallery in Australia.

Today, Holton operates Peach Tree Gallery from his working studio and exhibition space in the serene eastern hills of Mount Helena, Western Australia, where he also conducts small-group painting workshops and masterclasses. Alongside his wife, Waree, he maintains strong creative and personal ties to Northeast Thailand. He also writes and serialises his autobiographical memoir, A Story of Many Lives, on Substack.

Artistic Practice & Style

Holton interprets the diversity and beauty of Australian landscapes, figurative works, flower studies, and imaginative compositions through a modern analysis of impressionism and expressionism. Working across oils, fast-drying alkyds, acrylics, modelling paste, oil pastels, and inks on canvas and smooth satin or cotton rag paper, his technical approach spans heavy, textural impasto and rough-brushed movement to the deep luminosity of multiple translucent oil glazes.

In many of his figurative and landscape works, Holton juxtaposes vivid environments with whimsical, dreamlike, Chagall-esque figures—evoking an emotional resonance that exists both within and distinct from the landscape itself. As Holton notes: "Characteristically, these works communicate to people in different ways as they interpret them from the source of their own experience and emotions."

Artistic Influences: Lloyd Rees, Vincent van Gogh, Pierre Bonnard, Gustav Klimt, the Fauves, Lucian Freud, Arthur Boyd, Sidney Nolan, John Perceval, Brett Whiteley, Marc Chagall, Garry Shead, Fred Williams, Stanley Spencer, and Paula Rego.
