GALLERY: A very bold painting. So strong that it is certain to take over the room in which it is hung. It is bound to become the centrepiece of the room. It is full of exciting shapes. The shapes of the lilies are echoed in the shapes of the leaves, the vase and the chair. The artist has used the red background to create interesting patterns of negative shapes. The background is flat and even the chair and vase are in the plane of the painting, but the flowers and leaves burst out towards you in three dimensions. ARTIST: "I love the floating white shapes of lilies and the thick waxy leaves. I wanted the leaves and flowers to be very real and jump out of the painting."
