GALLERY: Above all it is the richness of the glazes that make this painting work. Holton's favourite subject it seems, Red Hill. A place in which it is always sunset a bit like the Mad Hatter's tea party. Perhaps he has had an argument with time. The painting glows layers of paint and a subtle complexity. When this painting is hung it will require exactly the right lighting, not too strong and not too weak. I can imagine entering a darkened room which is lit only by the light on this work. So that you feel that it is a portal to another world. The world of Red Hill and Holton's imagination. ARTIST: "When the sun goes down over Red Hill, the whole landscape glows with residual redness."
