Artist/Gallery notes
A view of the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club from Freshwater Bay. I have painted this scene many times, as have other artists. Simply because it is an inspiringly lovely view. The shape of the clubhouse, the patterns of the boats and the dark sentinel Norfolk Island Pine, all attracted me. As in so many of my paintings, I wanted to show the Great Green River drawing you into the distance to the estuary and escape into the Indian Ocean, to adventures in the spice islands, the Indian sub-continent and the dark womb of Africa, where I lived as a young man.
