Artist/Gallery notes
This is a view across the ranges, close to my property. It is a difficult painting to classify or explain as, during the process of painting it, the painting somehow took over and made itself. It has the light and colours of Western Australia and some of the mystery of the Australian bush. Australia is an ancient continent and has been inhabited for many thousands of years by an ancient people, who lived with the land and were part of the land. In an uncanny way, the feeling, drama, ceremony of countless lives of these people, the Australian Aborigines, seems to have become incorporated into the landscape. There are many places and many times when the hairs on the back of your neck crawl with some unexplained presence. It cannot be explained, but it is there.
