The empty offices are silent. Far below ragged buildings emerge from the crepuscular gloom. Under corrugated roofs, bodies lie disturbed by the stillness of anticipation, in that moment before dawn. Then the sun strikes its opening blow in its battle with the night. A brilliant streak of yellow and red slashes across the city, heralding that fire of fires, as Perth awakens. A new day begins.
